The Lakes

Penlake

Penlake is the first lake that you will see on entering the fishery and parking is available at either end. With a number of central islands and reed beds each of the 25 pegs offers opportunities to the angler and many are secluded and private. This is the main match water for the fishery and is stocked with mid-size carp although a number of specimens also patrol the margins and islands. The trees and mature landscaping offer protection in Winter and shade in the Summer.

Species

Mainly carp to 10lbs although there is a good head of silvers including rudd, perch and chub.

Pegs

25

Depth

5-8 feet with the deeper sections being by the top road.

Methods

The favoured method is the long pole to gives access to the reed beds and islands. Fishing the waggler shallow or tight to the islands can also yield results. Ledgering is allowed throughout the year NO method feeders, bolt rigs, in-line feeders. The High Pool has been renamed Penlake Please can we remind you of the BAITS ALLOWED maggots; castors; luncheon meat ; worms; yellow sweetcorn; pellet; please purchase feed pellet from us at £1 per bag. No Bread - Hemp - Groundbait - Paste (or paste from our pellet) No Dog food - Cat food - Macaroni Cheese No Prawns - Biscuits - flavourings or colourings, Do not feed meat - hook only Applies to All Lakes. Please read the Notice Board as you come in All anglers fishing matches, it is MOST important that you DO NOT put your keepnets in the water until 10 minutes before the start of your match. It is vital that you adhere to this rule. Applies to all pools. We have a strict 50lb to a net rule, please bring 3 keepnets to our venue. Your secretary should inform you of our full list of match rules. Please note - we do not rescue lost equipment from the water. Do not enter the water.

Baits

Depending on the time of year and the weather use pellet, sweetcorn, meat or maggots , worms and casters. - meat is to be on the hook, not fed, please do not use flavourings or colourings. pellet and corn seem to be the best just recently (May 2011) PLEASE STOP using macaroni cheese, you are causing oil on top of the water which we cannot get rid of and also compromises the water quality. We try and keep the water quality at its best, therefore do not use the banned baits.

Broomhill Lake

At nearly 2 acres this is the middle of the 3 lakes and with its islands and reed beds it offers similar challenge to the angler as Penlake. Stocked with smaller carp and a large head of silvers Broomhill offers some of the best pleasure fishing on the fishery. Fishing with light gear can provide fantastic sport but be prepared in case you tempt one of the big doubles!

Species

Mainly smaller stock carp but a good head of rudd, perch, bream and chub

Pegs

20

Depth

Around 6 feet throughout the lake but shallower towards the islands and reed beds.

Methods

The long pole again scores on this water but don’t ignore the possibility to stalk the larger carp in the Summer months. Willow Lake has now been renamed Broomhill May we remind you of the BAITS ALLOWED maggots; castors; worms; luncheonmeat; yellow sweetcorn; pellet, please purchase our feed pellet at £1 per bag If its not listed Don\'t Use it!

Baits

Small pellet, sweetcorn, worms, maggot and caster work well with soft pellet and meat providing an alternative.

The Bridge Lake

The Bridge is the bottom lake of the 3 tier layout and as such is probably the most lightly fished lake. With a large central island it offers more open water than the others and as such requires more careful feeding and choice of method. With a good mixed stock of fish and depths to 9 feet patience is often the key to a big weight. Ledgering can be a productive way to find the fish in the bigger bays.

Species

A range of specimen carp; ghost, common, leather and mirror make up the bulk of the bags. Chub, eels and perch to over 4lbs also abound in this water.

Pegs

15

Depths

6-9 feet with the deeper holes being midway to the island. The drop offs at the margins are steep and so be careful not to fish too far away from the island or bankside margins.

Methods

Long pole shallow or on the deck works well with the waggler giving the opportunity to explore more of the open waters. Ledgering in the winter will often pick off the bonus fish.

Baits

As for the other lakes all the usual baits work well. May we remind you of BAITS ALLOWED. maggots castors worms luncheonmeat yellow sweetcorn pellet, please purchase feed pellet at £1 per bag NO Bread NO Hemp NO Groundbait NO Dog Food - Cat Food - Macaroni Cheese NO Biscuits - Prawns - Mussells Etc Etc. In any of the lakes. Thank You.

River Salwarpe

The River Salwarpe runs through the Hawford Bridge Fishery and joins the Severn half a mile further downstream. For those who don't often sample the joys of river fishing this stretch gives you a great opportunity to practice the stick float for the chub and silvers or ledger for the hard fighting barbel. As a natural water course you will also find plenty of quality predator fishing with quality perch and some fit and hungry pike lurking around the numerous tree covered swims.

Species

Normal river species abound in this stretch of the Salwarpe. Most anglers will concentrate on the chub and silvers and the perch can go to over 3 lbs. Don't ignore the opportunity to target the double figure pike that patrol these waters.

Pegs

40 pegs spaced well apart and offering a variety of swims and challenges.

Depths

Mainly around 5-6 feet in the deeper runs. Look for the deep holes near fish holding features like fallen trees and bends.

Methods

Long pole can be used in some swims but this is mainly a running line water. Trotting a float down the deep glides can be a real experience and will also provide a good mixed bag of fish. If you target the bigger chub and barbel be prepared to step up the line strength and hooks size as the fish know where all the snags are! Fish the bomb when the river has some pace in it and the fish have come on the feed.

Baits

Maggot, caster and worm will account for most of the species if trotted down and covered with a steady amount of loose feed. Try a larger pellet for the hungry chub and hard fighting barbel.
